In October, Northwest Neighbors Village held a donation drive to support Feed the Family, a local organization whose mission is to provide fresh produce and cleaning supplies to neighbors in need. Members, volunteers, and the local community donated personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies to help our neighbors, many of whom are older adults. Volunteers picked up supplies from members’ homes and delivered them to the Pantry. Feed the Family founder Judith Ingram shared the good news that there was an uptick in donations last month. We hope NNV played a part in securing some of those donations to support Feed the Family’s good work.
NNV will hold quarterly donation drives to Feed the Family, but you don’t have to wait. You can donate items directly to the Pantry on Saturdays between 11 a.m – 3 p.m. The Pantry is located at 4225 Connecticut Avenue, NW - in the back of the old Walgreens off Veazey Terrace - or donate an online order sent to 3730 Cumberland St. N.W., Washington, D.C., 20016.
In November, Northwest Neighbors Village is partnering with Goods for Good to support their Comfort Casseroles project. Cook healthy and delicious casseroles for low-income seniors receiving residential and supportive services from SOME’s Karin’s House and Seabury Resources for Aging. Make that special casserole dish you are known for or have fun trying a new recipe, while providing an older adult with a nutritious meal – or two! Casseroles can be delivered to an Ally Site now through November 30. Follow this link to sign up. Full members who need help delivering their casserole can request a volunteer’s help by contacting the office at 202-935-6060 or info@nnvdc.org
Our sincerest thanks to everyone who has joined us in supporting Feed the Family and Goods for Good. We are so grateful for the opportunity to partner in their good work. In doing so, we move closer to realizing our vision of a generous, supportive community where all older adults are valued, age with dignity, and enjoy opportunities for growth and engagement.
Through a centrally-coordinated, local network of screened volunteers and vetted professional providers, Northwest Neighbors Village offers its members transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping assistance, home repairs and handyman help, computer and technology assistance, access to social and cultural activities and more.
