This month will mark the 20-year anniversary of the Village Movement. In recogniton of the positive impact Villages have on the experience of aging, Tuesday, February 15th will be recognized in Congress as National Village Day. Closer to home, Mayor Muriel Bowser has officially proclaimed the day as DC Villages Day.
What began as a simple concept of neighbors helping neighbors, has flourished into a bold movement to reimagine aging in the 21st century. Twenty years after the first Village was established in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood, a thriving network of hundreds of non-profit community-based Villages are providing a cost-effective, sustainable solution for healthy, vibrant aging – a milestone worthy of celebration!
You are invited to celebrate this exciting milestone with Villages across the country and in the Metro area on Tuesday, February 15th:
Each and every one of you have contributed to the growth and success of the Village Movement. Thank you for being a part of the national movement that is strengthening communities and enabling older adults to thrive!
Through a centrally-coordinated, local network of screened volunteers and vetted professional providers, Northwest Neighbors Village offers its members transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping assistance, home repairs and handyman help, computer and technology assistance, access to social and cultural activities and more.
