Looking Ahead with Hope

2024 marks NNV’s 15th Anniversary! This is an exciting milestone for us, and we look forward to celebrating with you! Here are some things to look forward to:

  • New Programming and Beloved Favorites – David Oldfield, NNV volunteer and director of The Midway Center for Creative Imagination has created a new series called Four Seasons of Creativity for Elders. The series will offer creative experiences designed specifically for elders to tell their stories in new and imaginative ways. David will introduce his exciting new program on January 11th. On January 17th, Linda Crichlow-White will offer an in-person discussion on Higher Education for African Americans 1850 – 1954: A Little about Attendance in HBCUs and PWIs. Linda’s highly anticipated program will address the important role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) in our country. Space is limited at Linda’s discussion, click here to learn more or to sign up. In addition, we invite you to check out our events calendar for upcoming programs, including the return of our popular Virtual Speaker Series, the continuation of our small group gatherings, and Mayu’s back for Gentle Yoga beginning January 8th!

  • Responding to Our City’s Older Adults – Since our inception, NNV has been adapting our programs and services to meet the needs of older adults in our community. Today is no different. This year, NNV will conduct a survey of all members. Your feedback is critical to helping us evaluate how we are doing and find ways to have an even greater positive impact in the future.

NNV’s reach extends beyond our local community. Our Village is working closely with the DC Villages Collaborative (DCVC) on advocacy efforts to strengthen services for older adults citywide. Stay tuned on how you can help!

  • Continued Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – We know we can do a better job of fulfilling our mission when the demographics of our Village reflect that of our community. That is why NNV’s board and staff are committed to addressing inclusivity and diversity in everything we do - from incorporating diverse perspectives in leadership decisions to offering programming that incorporates diverse voices and reflects a spectrum of interests. This spring, we will share NNV’s new strategic plan, which incorporates a multiyear plan to make sure that our community is better reflected in our Village.

  • Party Time! What’s an anniversary without a celebration? Good thing we will never know the answer to that question. NNV staff and volunteers are busily working on plans to mark our 15th Anniversary throughout the year. Keep an eye out for upcoming events. We hope you will celebrate with us!

Thanks to you, we have much to look forward to in 2024! NNV board and staff extend our warmest greetings for a peaceful, happy, and healthy new year.
