Washington is home to many talented and interesting people. Lucky for us, accomplished pianists and NNV volunteers Cathy Waldman and Paul Levi are neighbors who will generously share their talent with our community. On Sunday, March 3rd at 2:00 pm, these accomplished pianists and composers will perform side-by-side, a Piano Four-Hand Band, at The Levine School of Music.
Cathy is a Juilliard-trained pianist. She has appeared as chamber music pianist and composer in the U.S., and throughout Europe, Israel, and South Africa. Paul holds a doctoral degree in composition from Juilliard. His music has been performed in major concert halls in the U.S. and abroad and has been recorded on major labels by first-class performers. Paul has experience in sound studios, films and television work, in musical theater, and instrumental ensembles. Paul composed PBS’s signature tune, which most of us remember from the 1970s and early 80s.
The married duo’s overlapping skills are sure to entertain us all. Cathy enjoys improvisation while Paul composes with a comedian’s sense of timing. Levi writes, “I think of my music as a gift to a community consisting of the composer, the performers, and the listener.” The New York Times describes Paul’s music as "uninhibited emotional expression... skillful instrumentation".
The pair will perform a short concert of selections by tango composer Astor Piazzolla, as well as Prokofiev, Bach, and a new piece by Paul himself. We are so grateful to Cathy and Paul for sharing their talent with our community. We hope you will join us! Click here to learn more or to sign up.
