Northwest Neighbors Village (NNV) has organized a robust calendar of events this fall. In addition to our regular programs like Gentle Yoga, lunches, book clubs, walks, and chats, NNV has a number of special events you won't want to miss! Annual Fall Vaccine Clinic is October 24th from 10-12 – NNV is partnering with Forest Hills of DC again this year to offer a community vaccine clinic. Members and neighbors alike can get the flu, Covid, RSV, Shingles and/or Pneumovax vaccine. All vaccines that can be manufactured for older adults will be on hand. The clinic is offered on a first come, first served basis. Please bring your medical insurance card and photo ID. We are sorry, but we cannot offer the vaccines to Kaiser patients. Register here.
Know Your Options Series – Know Your Options is a series of monthly programs that are designed to provide information about services and providers who can help you navigate the changing landscape of aging. Members can enjoy a tour and lunch at Ingleside at Rock Creek on October 28th. All neighbors are encouraged to join Iona Senior Services on November 17th on Zoom for an overview of their programs and services, including their Dementia Navigator Program. On December 4th, members are invited to visit Forest Hills of DC for a tour and lunch. AARP's Smart DriverTEK Vehicle Technology Workshop – Thinking of buying or renting a new car? Then this workshop is for you! On November 7th, our friends at AARP will provide an overview of top vehicle safety technologies, a step-by-step guide of how these technologies work, and how they can make driving safer and more enjoyable. Adam Gopnik's New York – On November 8th, for one night only, Adam Gopnik's New York will come to DC! Join us for an evening with noted New Yorker writer and best-selling author, Adam Gopnik. After a run at New York City's Lincoln Center, Adam Gopnik will bring his new one-man show, Adam Gopnik's New York, to Washington, DC as a benefit for Northwest Neighbors Village. Tour of Cedar Hill - Born into slavery in 1818, Frederick Douglass escaped as a young man and became a leading voice in the abolitionist movement. People everywhere still find inspiration today in his tireless struggle, brilliant words, and inclusive vision of humanity. Douglass's legacy is preserved at Cedar Hill in Anacostia. On November 14th, members are invited to join us for a guided tour of the historic house where Frederick Douglass lived his last 17 years. Click here to learn more and sign up.
Thanksgiving Dinner at Hunter's Hound – Members are invited to join us on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27th to continue the tradition of having a happy time and delicious dinner at Hunter's Hound in Chevy Chase. Through a centrally-coordinated, local network of screened volunteers and vetted professional providers, Northwest Neighbors Village offers its members transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping assistance, home repairs and handyman help, computer and technology assistance, access to social and cultural activities and more.
