As a member driven organization, Northwest Neighbors Village (NNV) has been organizing programs and services to meet the unique needs of our membership and community. In this spirit, we are pleased to bring you a new series of monthly programs that are designed to provide information about services and providers who can help you navigate the changing landscape of aging. Continue reading to see what we have planned for the first quarter:
On April 24th, we will kick off the series with Navigating Senior Living - Understanding Your Options, a talk with Silver Bridges, a firm that helps older adults and their families find the ideal senior living community. Specialists Ginger Noce and Kristy Kennedy will provide information on the types of senior living options available, explain fees and payment options, and provide guidance on questions to consider when evaluating senior living communities. This virtual program will provide useful information for everyone – whether you are thinking of moving in the near future, never imagined residing in a senior living community, or are trying to help a loved one make a move. On May 28th, NNV members will have a chance to visit Chevy Chase House. This members-only event includes an opportunity to tour Chevy Chase House, an assisted living community located on Connecticut Avenue perfectly situated among the shops and restaurants in Chevy Chase DC. Visit an apartment, learn about the amenities, meet Chevy Chase residents, sample their menu over lunch, and find out more about what it's like to live at Chevy Chase House. Join us on June 6th when Malika Moore of Aging & Amazing offers a virtual program on care management. Malika will explain how care managers, also known as aging life care managers, can help you make informed decisions and plans to age well. Find out how care managers' holistic approach can save you time, money, and confusion when considering everything from health care, personal care, housing, legal issues, and caregiving. Discover how care managers' knowledge of local resources and expertise can help avoid costly mistakes and avoidable crises. Click here to learn more and to sign up.
Stay tuned for future programs in this series. We plan to explore services available through the DC Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL), tour more senior living communities, find out about estate planning, move management, and a variety of other services. We hope to see you at one or all of our upcoming Know Your Options programs.
Through a centrally-coordinated, local network of screened volunteers and vetted professional providers, Northwest Neighbors Village offers its members transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping assistance, home repairs and handyman help, computer and technology assistance, access to social and cultural activities and more.
